Fascia is literally the stuff that ties all the individual pieces of the body (from cells on up) together into an integrated, functioning whole. It spreads continuously throughout the body, surrounding and penetrating every muscle, bone, organ, nerve, blood vessel and cell in it. It’s absolutely everywhere in the body. Without it you’d be a big slippery puddle of liquid and mass of frustrated and quivering cells piled up on the floor.
When an area of this fascial scaffolding becomes tight, hard and restricted, it can create pain or malfunction throughout the body often producing seemingly unrelated symptoms. Most people suffering with pain and/or limited ability to move easily have underlying fascial problems.
